Sankofa Living & Learning is a registered non-profit organization (MTÜ) based in Estonia and Portugal. We focus on education, sustainable living, off-grid experiences, and empowering the African diaspora through creative and cultural projects.
Sankofa is a word from the Akan language of Ghana that means “Go back and get it.” It symbolizes the importance of reconnecting with our roots and learning from the past to move forward with purpose.
Sankofa was founded by Daniel Duroshola, a tech-savvy member of the African diaspora, born and raised in Germany and now living off-grid in Portugal. His personal journey inspired the foundation’s mission to create spaces of freedom, healing, and education.
We currently offer several programs, including:
• Sankofa Learning Program (education & digital empowerment)
• Sankofa Eco Living Program (off-grid skills & sustainability)
• Sankofa Music Gathering Program (music & cultural exchange)
• Sankofa Remote Worker Program (support for digital nomads)
• Together is Better (youth and diaspora empowerment)
You can join us by purchasing a monthly or annual membership. The standard rate is €10/month, but the first 400 members get 50% off with an upfront annual payment (€60/year). After that, annual upfront members still receive a 25% discount (€90/year).
Members receive:
• Unlimited access to our growing library of digital resources (courses, e-books, toolkits)
• Invitations to workshops and community events
• Priority access and discounts for retreats
• The opportunity to shape and contribute to our projects
Not at all. While we center and uplift the voices of the African diaspora, Sankofa is open to everyone who resonates with our values of sustainability, education, and community.
Yes! You can support our mission through one-time or recurring donations. Every contribution helps us grow our programs and reach more people.
All funds support our core initiatives—developing free and low-cost educational content, organizing community programs, maintaining our off-grid retreat spaces, and supporting artists and youth-led projects.
We love collaboration! You can:
• Volunteer your time or skills
• Contribute content (courses, music, stories)
• Partner with us as an organization
• Spread the word and invite others to join
